In March 2006, children in the third and sixth grades in the state of Connecticut will take the fourth generation Connecticut Mastery Test.  They will be tested in reading, writing, and mathematics. The educational policy makers will look very carefully at how your children do in reading and mathematics. Historically, children in Connecticut have not done well in reading.

It is very important that you continue to help the teachers to teach your child. Your child must read a minimum or 25 minutes each night. In addition to reading, it is important that you ask your child questions to make sure that he or she understands what they have read and help them have a meaningful discussion about books.

A template for how to R.E.A.D to your child  is included. It contains important questions and statements you should ask

after your child has completed his or her book. Each night take one of the letters in the word R.E.A.D and ask questions in that section. You will be surprised at how well your child will begin to talk about books.
